Why Pause?

The name

One of the hardest things I learned as a storyteller is the power of the pause. It’s hard not to fill the awkward silence during an interview or follow up immediately with another question; seasoned storytellers will tell you if you keep quiet, sometimes the most powerful things are born out of that silence. Sometimes silence can speak volumes.

The who

I'm Bree Steffen, an Emmy-award-winning reporter and video journalist. In 2018, I hit pause on my successful TV news career to embark on a brand new creative journey. This adventure has enriched my life and the life of my clients in ways I never imagined.

The history

To me, the pause symbol reminds me to slow down and appreciate life. It reminds me that it's ok to pause if you need time to heal. It reminds me that it's ok to pause, as long as you never stop. If I hadn't paused and taken a look at what I wanted from life, I wouldn't be here today.

I hit pause on a successful TV news career to search for something more creative in life. I started using my Emmy-award winning video skills to capture life's best moments, and I’ve never looked back!

I began drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon. In 2nd grade a classmate stole my pencil "because she thought it was magical," she confessed upon returning it. To me, the magic is inviting nature into the design process - an intersection of art and science. I approach graphic design with research and a focus on problem-solving. Oh, and a dash of magic!

As a storyteller, I started portrait photography specifically as a small passion project during quarantine and I quickly fell head over heels in love with it. Through my photography, my goal is to capture the essence of individuals by commemorating joy, love, confidence, and overall life in all its  beauties!

I like to think outside the box. There’s something exciting about dumping a bunch of uninspiring, boring little pieces out and arranging them to make something creative and productive. Every sculpture is just unbroken rubble. Every painting is just organized spills and stains. The box is full of rules and limitations, and breaking out is my favorite kind of creative challenge.
